The German brand Opel has just presented the Mokka-e. This is an electric car with a completely new design line. According to the brand, this vehicle represents the debut of a new design language under the Opel Vizor grille. Apparently, this design will be used in the next Opel vehicles, in addition, it approaches more of a Crossover than an SUV.
Engine and battery performance promise a competitive car with a sporty look.
Opel Mokka-e is the new electric to hit the market in 2021
There is no doubt that in terms of features these are very interesting. As is described, the Mokka-e promises up to 322 kilometres with its 136 horsepower front engine. The vehicle will probably go on sale at the end of the year or early 2021.
Opel’s recent addition to the PSA group (Peugeot, Citröen, DS, Opel and Vauxhall) has enabled it to become profitable and to be able to bet on electrification. It is therefore using the CMP platform, the modular platform of the French group. Thus, the Opel Mokka is powered by a 136 horsepower (100 kW) engine with 260 Nm of torque, the same numbers we saw in the Peugeot e-208.
In the case of this new Mokka-e, the maximum speed is limited to 150 km/h, regardless of whether we are in Normal, Eco or Sport mode.
Opel bets on a young and sporting offer
The company wanted to offer a balanced commitment to autonomy, so the limitation mentioned above. As such, a range of 322 kilometres is promised under the WLTP cycle in normal driving mode. In addition, the electric car can also run in Eco mode, however, Opel did not give details about the numbers in this mode.
As far as the power supply of the machine is concerned, it is equipped with a fast loading system that will allow you to go from 0% to 80% in 30 minutes, depending on the manufacturer.
The lines position the vehicle between an SUV and a Crossover. The Opel Mokka is only 4.15 meters long and is more compact than the previous generation combustion engine.
According to Opel, it comes equipped with a lot of technology, such as automatic cruise control (to automatically maintain a safe distance from other vehicles), maintenance assistance in the lane, autonomous emergency brake, 30-inch touch screen, 180° rear view panoramic camera, advanced parking assistance system, compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, among others.
Price and availability
No doubt the price can make all the difference. However, Opel did not give a price or equipment versions for this Mokka-e that. So we will have to wait a little longer, it should not be too long, given that the tram should be on sale at the end of this 2020 and will reach dealers in early 2021.
Although the market is “confused”, there is no doubt that it is a strong bet on electrics, not least because the brand is launching this model before the combustion variants, which are expected to arrive later. Thus, after the Corsa-e, the Mokka-e represents a great step forward for electrification of Opel products.
