The idea is very interesting. Basically, it is to combine the concept of mobility with the protection of the environment. POIMO is a scooter designed to be carried in your backpack and that can be inflated in just over a minute. The project was developed by researchers at the University of Tokyo with these various objectives combined. In addition, it is also said that the genesis of this innovation is security.
This potential means of transport could indeed be very interesting. As we will see, this combines the easiness of the person to transport the vehicle that will transport him … smart!
An electric scooter that fits in your backpack
As can be seen in product presentation, this 4-wheel electric vehicle has five solid and detachable components. Then bring the two sets of wheels (6 inches at the back and 8 inches at the front), an electric motor, a battery and a handlebar, which is a remote control!
The body of this scooter is manufactured mainly with thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), which is already used to manufacture products such as air mattresses. However, this prototype still weighs around 5.5 kg in total. That is why its researchers continue to develop improvements in order to reduce weight on subsequent prototypes.
We believe that our inflatable mobility, which is different from existing mobility systems and creates new relationships with people, will be useful for the city in the future.
Said Ryuma Niiyama, part of the development team at the University of Tokyo.
According to its creators, the word POIMO is an acronym for Portable and Inflatable Mobility. The vehicle's mission is to be efficient, environmentally friendly, useful in everyday life and safe. Safe, because its creators understand that the fact that the POIMO body is a balloon can help to cushion it, in case of impact.
Despite looking good, this vehicle shown is still a prototype. Thus, in the final version, the appearance may be slightly different. In addition to the final aspect, what is also unknown is the price and the date of launch on the market. However, this could be another vehicle to “rent” to tour the cities.
